Strong enough to protect her. Bold enough to love her.
When good girl Margo Connelly becomes Lamar “Striker” Jennings’s latest assignment, she knows she’s in trouble. And not just because he’s been hired to protect her from an underworld criminal. The reformed bad boy’s appeal is breaching all her defenses, and as the threats against her increase, Margo isn’t sure which is more dangerous: the gangster targeting her, or the far too alluring protector tempting her to let loose.
Though Striker’s now living on the right side of the law, he’s convinced his troubled past keeps Margo out of his league. But physical chemistry explodes into full-blown passion when they go on the run together. Surrendering to desire could be a deadly distraction—or finally prove that he’s the only man qualified to keep her safe, and win her love.
Writing is getting harder. Sometimes, I wonder why I put myself through this. I know I like to write. I have these characters in my head just begging to come out. But I cannot find a way to let them out in a way that really makes me feel like I am doing them any justice.
It is hard to explain to someone who is not a writer. It is like being a painter, seeing the perfect picture in your mind, but unable to bring it to life. It is like seeing the perfect house or home in your head and not being able to build it or find it.
That, to me, is what this life as a writer is like. I loved this story that I had started, but now, I do not know what I am doing with it. I do not know what I am doing with anything. I feel lost, floating, adrift in a sea of words. Then they hit me like a wave, scattering around and refusing to settle back.
See, I can write pretty metaphors. But they do not always make sense. Even if they do, it never really has any true application. They are not ones that you would use in real life! I mean who would use “lost in a sea of words”?
Shannon Hale knows what she wants in life. Or so she thought.
But one cheating fiancé and shredded wedding dress later, she skips town desperately needing a do-over. So she moves in with her brother, the new quarterback for the Raleigh Rough Riders, starts her own business, and vows to live by her own rules and no one else’s.
Oliver Powell is a man who always gets what he wants. As the sexy as sin MVP Tight End, he’s arrogant. He’s loaded. He’s also got a sizeable package below the belt that drives the women crazy.
First, I want to say that I got a copy as an ARC, but I wasn’t paid, and this book was actually on my “To Read” and I had to cancel my pre-order 😉
Now, on to the review:
You’d think, by the description, that it would be the “billionaire has kid, can’t handle kid, hires nanny,” but while, yes, that’s sort of what happens, Matt is actually almost a helicopter father and very protective.
Ariana (Ari as she prefers to be called) comes from a broken home, and ended up in the foster system. She lost contact with her brother, who went into the military when she was a child.
Matt helps her find her brother, and there are some heartbreaking stories to follow with that, and Ari helps Matt realize that he’s holding on too tight with his son.
It was a quick read, not because it was short, but because the story was so good!
The connection to place, to the land, the wind, the sun, stars, the moon… it sounds romantic, but it’s true – the visceral experience of motion, of moving through time on some amazing machine – a few cars touch on it, but not too many compared to motorcycles. I always felt that any motorcycle journey was special.
