I stood in a salvage parts office, smelled oil, heard rapid fire parts talk, and didn’t feel like a stupid girl. I did miss Indiana just a bit tho.

I wrote that in a text to my dad. One of the greatest men I have ever met in my life, one I am proud to call my dad.

See, growing up, my dad was a “grease monkey”. His hands are practically permanently tipped in black from oil. His hair always has a beautiful sheen because of it. I can say, though, that not once in my life was I embarrassed to say “My dad’s a mechanic”. He didn’t make a lot of money, but he worked hard for what he earned. He was good at what he did. He was respected for his work.

He’s still a mechanic now, but now he works on bigger machines. Know those lifts, cranes and things? He keeps them running. He works in an industry that’s always learning, always growing. He taught all of us kids that life isn’t about getting through school and being done. Life is your school. Life is your playground.

My dad is more than a father. He’s a hero. He’s a provider. He’s a shoulder when I need one. He’s a laugh when I just want to cry. He always knows the right thing to say, and he’s never afraid to say “I don’t know.”

Dad, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but I hope you will. I hope you know how much I love you, and how proud I am, always, to say that I am your daughter. I am proud to be part of your life, share your genes, all of that. I feel truly blessed that my children have you in your life, and that I had you as an example of what a man truly was. Because of you, I learned hard lessons and easy ones. Because of you doing what you thought was best, I met the man whom, in 2 days, I will have been with for ten years. Because of you, I am alive, in more ways than one.

Thank you, Daddy. Thank you.

I Can’t Help But Laugh

We walk by a store in the mall that sells "urban clothes", and I just can’t help but laugh at them. I would laugh to myself if I saw someone wearing the clothes too. They’re just so ridiculous looking!!

I’m not knocking those that wear them. Nope, not what I’m doing. It’s more of just the outfits and clothes remind me too much of Snookie, which reminds me of a sausage exploding out of it skins. *shudder* Not a sight I want to see!
