Food For Thought

Dinner

I’m on the hunt for some really good steak recipes. I like steak. I don’t get it often because it’s almost stupid expensive, but I do truly love a good steak. When it’s cooked just perfect (I like mine medium rare, which just a small amount of blood … I got that from my dad, I do believe). The smell of good beef cooking in the air.

I’d rather be able to do it at home. That means more goody goodness for us. So much yummy goodness.

So, hit me up with them. PREFERABLY something I can do with a Foreman grill. I don’t have real access to an “actual” grill. 🙁

The Smell is Grossing Me Out

I am truly becoming grossed-out at the stagnant smell of cigarettes. We are really the ONLY ones in this building who don’t smoke.

Yes, I’ve complained about the smell before, but today it’s truly bad. Below us isn’t home, as far as I can tell (their vehicles are gone) but the apartment REEKS so badly. I don’t think they have their windows open, and are running their A/C or something. We have windows open, but I didn’t have any fans on. The smell is awful in the bedroom.

The internet needs smell-o-vision, and then you’d understand. It’s just gross. Absolutely gross!

But for something NOT so gross:

So, I cleaned my kitchen. It happens when I start texting with Kori. I can’t help it! Kitchen, and apartment, REEKS of Clorox Clean up.

So, to treat myself, I made my Jell-O No-Bake Oreo Dessert. Oh yummy drooly goody goodness!!

I had 1/3 of the pie myself. Josh had another 1/3, and the kids had 1/6 each, Laughing out loud

Mmm … delicious!!

Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookies

085/365 {2011} - The Remains of Today

I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Next week, or so, a new novel is coming out. It’s a VAMPIRE novel: Lover Unleashed: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. So, my way of enjoying books is with a good cookie. Sometimes I buy the pre-packaged, sometimes I make them by hand.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening or vegetable oil
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2-3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 12-oz package (2 cups) semisweet chocolate pieces or M&Ms
  • 1-1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 475F. In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high heat for 30 seconds. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, and salt. Beat until mixture is combined, scraping sides of the bowl occasionally. Beat in eggs and vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour. Stir in chocolate and nuts (if using).
  2. Drop dough by rounded teaspoons apart onto non-greased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are just light brown. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to wire racks and let cool.
