Being Helpful

Untitled

The old laptop, the tiny (it seems now) 15.4″, formerly involving Vista, now using Windows 7, is going to be on loan to my sister-in-law. It hadn’t been turned on since February of 2013. I’m surprised it worked!

It needed some major updates, and I cleaned off some programs and other things, but it’s working! WOO!

So, it’s working, albeit slowly, painfully slow, but it’ll hopefully tide her over until she can replace her borked computer!

And now I’m going to go back to the premiere of Being Human on Syfy! LOVE that show!

Looking at an Upgrade

I am by no means an htc virgin, but I’m doing research on the HTC Titan. I have the Surround, and while I like it, the weight is bulky. I rarely use the speakers for it. I use my phone as an MP3 player, yes, but it’s usually with headphones. Unless I’m taking a shower, and then I hook it up to external speakers Open-mouthed smile

Josh has me looking at Windows 7 phones for him. He’d rather stick with a “dumb-phone” but good luck on finding any lately that aren’t cheap junk ones. He wants to stick with Windows, simply because I know the phones. I know the OS. I can explain it (or show him) and I can troubleshoot. Plus, it’s sync-stupid, which is great for him. No offense to him or anything, just saying Open-mouthed smile

Basically, right now, our choice is an HTC or a Samsung. Both the Titan and Focus S, I believe it is, has front facing cameras. Not that that is a big deal, but it would be fun sometimes to have those kind of convos. Would probably kill the battery though, Sad smile

Wireless Networking Problems

Question/Problem: When I hook up my wireless router, my PC no longer connects, but the Wii can, without a problem

Operating System and VERSION: PC: Windows XP SP2, and then whatevers on the Wii

Web Browser and VERSION: Firefox 2.0.0.11 for the PC, Opera for the Wii

Your level of experience: Seasoned with certain things, beginner with routers

Duration of problem: It’s been happening for awhile. My ISP (Cox) says it’s not them, but since I can connect with at least one internet-capable machine, I’m inclined to believe. It worked for awhile, but then stopped, and then would again, and then stopped again. We usually have to keep the router disconnected most of the time.

Any steps you’ve taken to troubleshoot? I’m not sure of which I can take. I’ve tried it with the router on, but the Wii off, and still have nothing. It’s already password-protected and all that good stuff.

I’m not sure if this info matters:
We’re not sure if it’s the computer (it’s slowly dying a painful death). We’re purchasing a laptop as soon as tax return comes in (should be by the end of the week), and we’re hoping that both of us can get on the computers at the same time. We’re purchasing a new tower in a few months (laptop is a priority, since I’m going to be going out of town, and still want to be in better contact than just phone with my husband).
