NOTE I did receive this for free, for review. I’m not paid for this review.
Now that that’s out of the way … on to the review.
I wasn’t a huge fan. I think part of it is how FAST Gideon “got over” his PTSD. Like, he found out that a painting he got from someone he knew that had been attached to his squad was worth money, he was okay.
Okay, that over-simplified it, but it did feel really fast. That’s a problem with romance novels, though. That happens A LOT.
It jumps from past to present, but not in a way that will leave you confused.
I went from tears to laughing so hard and then a little hot under the collar.
Lorelei James’ writing always sucks me in, almost from the first few sentences, and this story was no different. You finally get the story of Carolyn and Carson, and it’s a story that was worth the wait. You get to see the parents of the characters you fell in love with, seeing those characters as children, as teens, and then even as parents, trying to keep their families together while dealing with the fear of losing their mom.
I honestly loved the story, and it makes me want to re-read the whole series over again!
I’ll share a quote that made me share it on FB. WARNING: It’s definitely NSFW!
She inched closer to him. โRemember that the next time floozies are sniffing around you. Remember who fucked you outside a bar. Remember who sucked you off in her car. Remember that youโll never find a woman who gives you what I do in and out of bed. Remember youโre mine and I take care of whatโs mine. But if you ever fuck around on me I will cut off your cock and wear it as a necklace.โ She smashed her mouth to his, her kiss brutal. Relentless.
