WordPress 2.6 was just recently released, with some great and new features, but discussions of 2.7 are already occurring. Honestly, I can say that I’m extremely excited over this.
- Comments API: Basically, that means you can use offline programs to screen, moderate, edit, whatever, the comments. Kind of like Windows Live Writer/BlogDesk for blogging. Will come in handy, I’d say, with smartphones, as well.
- One Click Plugin Installs: No more having to open up your FTP program, then go to “activate” after it’s installed. Just click, and voila, installed
- WordPress core updates: Okay, now it’s time for a party and a happy dance. Finally, now, like with 2.5/2.6 and one-click updates for plugins, the same now WordPress itself, without the need for another plugin.
- Admin Panel Comment Replies: I love this idea. I have the plugin for the AJAX edit comments, but I’ve never been able to figure out how to reply at the admin panel with it, so I can’t can’t for this!!
- Comment Threading: Now WP will be more like LiveJournal when it comes to this, but honestly, I like the idea!!
- Subscribe to Comments: No more need for a plugin anymore. The less I have to rely on plugins for basic things, the better, IMO.
- Widgets for Dashboard and Write Box: Another call for dancing!! You get to edit how the write page and dashboard are organized! About time, IMO!!
What features are you looking forward to the most?

@ Teresa
It’s a great blogging platform. With the WP I’m talking about, though, you’d have to self-host, so while it’s free to download, it’s not always free to use.
