Thursday Thirteen - 18th Edition - RoadTrip Music

Yeah, I know, these trip-related posts are getting old, but I can’t help it. I need something to calm and soothe my nerves. This is my way of doing that ) So, this TT is about the perfect Road Trip Music, as least in my eyes )

These songs aren’t in any special order, nor are they completely relevant to going on a road trip of any sort, but they fit me, and how I want to travel ) Thank god the kids have their portable DVD players with separate headphones (we now have like 8 sets of headphones that can be used, lol ), so that I can listen to whatever I want to

Thirteen Road Trip Songs

  • I Want My Mullet Back by Billy Ray Cyrus
It makes me boogie in my seat and makes the trip more enjoyable )
  • Hell Yeah by Montgomery Gentry
I just like the song ;)
  • Love Song by Sara Bareilles
The song is awesome, and the music is upbeat )
  • Two Piña Coladas by Garth Brooks
    I likes the song )
  • What I’ve Done by Linkin Park
    COME ON!! It’s from a vehicle-based movie ;)
  • Rollin’ by LimpBizkit
Not really appropriate for kids, but hee hee, totally fits driving
  • Paradise City by Guns ‘n Roses
This is because my Daddy got me hooked on GnR when I was younger )
  • I Dare You to Move by Switchfoot
The song is from A Walk to Remember, and I love the song )
  • Hands Held High by Linkin Park
It’s kind of a bash on Bush and the economy, but I like it, and the words really fit the times.
  • Our Song by Taylor Swift
Beautiful song, beautiful words, beautiful voice )
  • You’re Gonna Miss This by Trace Adkins
Guaranteed to make me cry, but I love the words ;)
  • Everywhere by Tim McGraw
It really is a perfect road trip song, because I know I’m going to notice every single red Corolla on the road, and the kids most likely will as well.
  • Cry by Mandy Moore
Another from the A Walk to Remember soundtrack, but another awesome song )

And to continue the tradition, a song I’m obsessed with )
Alyssa Lies
Jason Michael Carrol

My little girl met a new friend,
just the other day,
on the playground at school
between the tires and the swings

But she came home with tear-filled eyes,
and she said to me “Daddy, Alyssa lies”

Well I just brushed it off at first,
’cause I didn’t know how much my little girl had been hurt
or the things she had seen.
I wasn’t ready when I said “You can tell me”

and she said…

“Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise”

My little girl laid her head down that night to go to sleep.
As I stepped out the room, I heard her say a prayer so soft and sweet
“God bless my mom and my Dad
and my new friend, Alyssa
*oh*I know she needs you bad

Because Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise”

(bridge)

I had the worst night of sleep in years
as I tried to think of a way to calm her fears
I knew just what it was I had to do *I knew exactly what I had to do*
but when we got to school on Monday I heard the news

My little girl asked me why everybody looked so sad
the lump in my throat grew bigger
with every question that she asked.
Until I felt the tears run down my face
and I told her that Alyssa wouldn’t be at school today

‘Cause she doesn’t lie in the classroom
she doesn’t lie anymore at school
Alyssa lies with Jesus
because there’s nothin’ anyone would do

Tears filled my eyes when my little girl asked me why
Alyssa lies
*Oh Daddy, oh* Daddy tell me why
Alyssa lies

This is one song not to play on a road trip, or you’re guaranteed to crash because you can’t see.
