Well Fudge!!

I wasn’t going to write about this, but oh well. If I disappear, at least there’ll be a reason for it, lol , and an explanation.

We come home from a few stops at places (mall and Walmart), to see the computer with the time set at 7:10pm. We got home at 10pm. That was the first sign something was up. Then IM had some funky code looking instead of e-mails. So, I attempt to open up the Task Manager and see what’s wrong, and I get some weird error message. I try to restart, and I’m forced to do a hard restart. Oh well, have to restart anyway to install Bon Voyage.

So, after the restart, it doesn’t read the cd-drive. So, I open up My Computer. Neither DVD-, nor CD-drives show up. FUDGE! So, another forced hard-restart because, once again, just hangs. SHOOT!!

So, after another restart, we try Josh’s login. Nope, still no drives. Still shows all the others, including the external, so it’s not the processor or anything like that. At least, that’s what we’re hoping. So, Josh turns it off, and we unhook the tower from everything, and open it up. Besides being barely dusty (and I mean barely, compared to what I’ve seen. There’s a fine layer, but not much at all on any of the 2 visible fans, or in the GC’s fan) and a little warm, everything looks good. He fiddles with the connections and nothing’s loose.

After re-hooking it all up, we try another turn-on. We’re on the current turn-on. Still no drives. Josh thinks it’s the IDE cable that connects the two drives to the motherboard (or whatever). We had the same problem with the old computer right after we moved into the one-bedroom, so it seems to be the most logical solution. If not, then we’re gonna start saving for a new tower. Well, we’re saving for a new tower anyway, but we’ll have to buy it sooner rather than later, because I need to make a DVD/CD for Mom.

I’ll have a better update later for the rest of last night ) It’s time for me to head to bed )

    Ow! That sucks.

I feel your pain, having had my share of computers go bad on me.

    Hope things work out.
